Changed double page spread. Used different colours to make the magazine flow better and made the text a slightly different size.

I enjoyed this task although finding a few difficulties along the way including a major creative block that slowed my work down for a few weeks this was soon forgotten about with the help of my teachers and ideas I started to have surrounding the work for me to get on with. We were told to create a front cover, contents page and double page spread, that feel I am quite please with the overall out come of my work, although if I could go back and tweak and alter a few things I would defiantly take up that opportunity.

Whilst making the magazine I tried to stick to the conventions of a magazine of this genre, researching in to magazines of this genre and writing textual analysis’s for the convention of the magazine talking about how they have created this magazine to keep the genre specific, sometimes straying off the ideas I had in my head I just had to remember what I was out to create and keep to the guidelines I had set myself out from the start. With my magazine I tried not to use stereotypes much but this is very difficult when you do have a specific genre of music that you have set, for my photos I tried to use a mix of family and friends who although some are not interested in this type of music I found still fitted the look of the type of stereotype of what other magazines of the same genre would usually print in their magazines.

On my front cover I tried to use and interesting photo that would attract someone to look at the magazine and buy it, I edited one of my favourite photos to create different effects, using layers I was not sure about the outcome and this is one of the things I would defiantly change it I could the idea I had for my front cover was a lot different I planned a few different ideas and some of these can be seen on my blog with emails I sent to people also with photos I have asked to use on my blog of the places, although I did not use these places due to reasons specified in the emails due to health and safety and getting to the locations.

The idea that I finally wanted to do was kind of based on a advert I had seen in magazines for a clothing company the name “it kids” I think would have related well to this but with lack of models who would pose for me and weather conditions making it hard for friends to get to different places I had to settle with second best which although I wasn’t pleased with I thought was better than having nothing. The main way I tried to attract the audience was to have quite an attractive magazine with eye catching photos and colours with text that would entice the reader to read on and be taken in, I think and hopefully I have created what I wanted to do and I am pleased with the outcome of the writing and the way I spoke to the audience in the articles and editors letter.

I feel that from doing this task I have learnt a lot about the processes of planning and constructing a magazine. I have learnt further in to the use of computer technologies such as photoshop and progress my skills with this programme so I have a better understanding of how they work, and have also learnt to use one that I have never used before such as Indesign and adobe illustrator. I have learnt how to construct the magazine with these programmes and how to put the magazine together using all of them with different aspects from each programme, I found each of the helpful in the construction of my work but mainly photoshop. As I already knew some of the basics of this programme I found it easy and with taking a wide variety of photos for my magazine and having to edit them learning where things where and refreshing my memory of the programme helped my without having to spend extensive amounts of time editing and making my photos look how I wanted them to. Now when I look at my preliminary task I am still proud of what I created during that task I think the main differences that I see when I compare them is defiantly the contents page and I think that in the main task my contents page is far better the text and the way I have set it out looks more like a contents page from a magazine. Although the only thing is that I don’t feel that my main magazine is as linked where as my prelim task was very linked with the background photo of the maps, the colours and the text that I used. I feel that since the preliminary task I have grown and my work is of quite a good standard although I would change things but that is due to the person I am and how I saw it in my head and couldn’t get exactly the same down on the page.

In conclusion I believe that I have met the brief that we had been set to produce a music magazine, I stuck to the genre that I picked and researched thoroughly in to the music and they way the magazine and the audience work together. I am pleased with the out come of the magazine and have learnt a lot from the start of starting to produce my magazine to the stage I finished when my magazine was completed.

Hi,
I was just wondering if you could possibly tell me how you got in to the spillers mill, i saw some of your images and i really want to go up there this weekend to take some photos for my a levels.
If you could get back to me as soon as possible that would be great, i just want to know how easy it is to get in and how you magaged to!
And if you cant help me do you know any other abandoned, amazing looking places that are easily accessable.
The photos you have of some of these places look great!!

Its for a project im doing at college.
sounds like quite a bit of an effort im going up there this weekend to have a look around see the best ways to get in.
I have been looking on the internet and emailed a few people about places. Im not really looking for anything specific although i do want somewhere that will look amazing in photographs, i did really want to go to an asylum but i couldnt find any in my area except for ones that have been knocked down.
Thanks for the help.

Atfer emailing these different people and getting the information I needed I decided that this location would be far to dangerous for me and my model that I was using, this is why I stayed to plain locations in my photos, although I would have really enjoyed to do something a bit different like this.

With most of the photos I did not have to edit them much, I am pleased with the out come of these photos, and having the chance to take the photos was possible the part of the project I enjoyed the most, I feel that when i was having troubles with the work the photos helped me to get out of the rut I was stuck in. Although I would have preferred the photos to be more creative I had to take in consideration the models I was using and what they would feel comfterble doing, this is why I decided to choice basic settings and surrondings so that they did feel comfterble and they could be themselves. I had lots of ideas but with hold ups due to weather and deadlines it also made it more tricky.
